Senator John Fetterman is becoming increasingly disengaged from the routine work of being a senator, while devoting much of his attention to Israel, conservative media appearances, and conflicts with fellow Democrats.
Former staffers say he often keeps a light schedule, cancels meetings with constituents, skips caucus gatherings and hearings, and has cycled through aides struggling to maintain a functioning office.
When told that officials from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia wanted to discuss Medicaid cuts and vaccines, Fetterman reportedly responded, “Well I’m not,” and suggested they wanted “free trips to DC.”
After being notified about a Democratic caucus call organized by Chuck Schumer’s staff, he responded, “I truly don’t care.”
Politically, Fetterman has moved far from the progressive image of his early career. His strong support for Israel has made him increasingly popular with Republicans and conservative media while alienating many Democrats.
