Marco Rubio on Venezuela:
Our desire and our goal here is not to create a permanent system where the current system simply becomes permanent.
What we all want, and what we have insisted on and been very clear about, is that at the end of the day, the moment has to come when Venezuela is governed by a democratically elected government.
But remember, democracy — a republic — is not just about holding an election. An election is obviously key, but that election has to be a valid election.
And when that government takes office, we do not want it to inherit an economic disaster or a country in complete crisis.
We want it to inherit a country that is stabilized and that, although it will obviously continue to have problems, is no longer in a situation of crisis.
