German Foreign Minister Wadephul: The immeasurable suffering for which Germany was responsible in Europe during the twentieth century can never be undone. This applies especially to the suffering that we Germans brought upon Poland through war and occupation. We have a duty to preserve this chapter as part of our shared history, as a warning and a remembrance, while at the same time shaping the future together. An important element of this process of reconciliation is the memorial for the Polish victims of National Socialism that we intend to build here in Berlin.
